This postgraduate programme is offered in partnership by the Royal College
of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the School for Health at the University
of Bath. We would like to ackknowledge the contribution of NHS Education
for Scotland, the NHS Scotland Information Governance Programme and the
Information Governance Advisory Board to the development of the programme.
Designed and developed by a multi-professional team, the proposed programme
will:

Provide a comprehensive, innovative, practitioner-based approach to
understanding issues around Information Governance in health and social care
-
Meet the needs of those working in professional information roles, from
clinical to managerial
-
Equip graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake leadership
roles in Information Governance within health and social care organisations
-
Be delivered by distance learning - blending e-learning with face-to-face
teaching
The Postgraduate programme in Healthcare Information Governance can be studied
to CPD, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and MSc level.
Programme Aims
The aim of the programme is to equip health and social care professionals
with the understanding and skills essential for developing and implementing the
Information Governance (IG) Agenda in the NHS, enabling them to:

understand key IG related legislation and guidance

implement IG at a strategic and operational level

improve the Information Governance, Information Management and Knowledge
Management arrangements and practices at an organisational level
Programme Delivery, Teaching and Support
A professional programme integrating knowledge, activities and experiential
work-based learning through face-to-face teaching and e-learning. Reflective,
practice-based elements provide relevance and application and online 'virtual
workshops' build communities of practice through student-student and
student-mentor interaction. Students are supported by expert tutors and
mentors.
Programme Structure
The programme is modular, allowing students to accumulate credits at a pace to
suit their work and life commitments.

Funding
Some bursary funding will be available from NHS Scotland Boards for NHS
staff working in Scotland.
